PlayStation has unveiled more details about its upcoming wireless fight stick for PS5 and PC, now officially named the FlexStrike. Set to launch in 2026, this announcement comes just in time for the annual EVO fighting game tournament.
Originally known as `Project Defiant` and a surprise reveal at PlayStation`s June 2025 State of Play presentation, the FlexStrike marks Sony`s first official entry into the fight stick market. It utilizes PlayStation Link wireless connectivity, which offers several advanced features for PS5 users, including the ability to seamlessly pair with wireless PlayStation Pulse headsets or earbuds for lag-free audio. Furthermore, two FlexStrike controllers can be connected simultaneously to a single PS5, perfect for local multiplayer sessions.
The FlexStrike features a classic eight-button layout and a joystick, all presented in a sleek black and white color scheme that harmonizes with the aesthetic of the PS5 and other official peripherals. Sony highlights its “sturdy, ergonomic design,” promising a comfortable grip during intense gaming. A notable feature is the joystick`s customizable movement gates—square, circle, or octagon—which can be swapped out easily without the need for tools. A convenient built-in compartment is included for storing these extra restrictor gates and the PS Link USB adapter when not in use.

For inputs, the eight main face buttons (mapping to Cross, Circle, Square, Triangle, R1, R2, L1, and L2) are equipped with mechanical switches for precise feedback. The FlexStrike also incorporates other standard inputs found on the PS5`s DualSense controller, such as:
- PS Button
- Share Button
- PlayStation Link Button
- L3 Button
- R3 Button
- Touch Pad
- Options Button
Additional functionalities include a Lever Mode Switch for altering stick operation and a Lock Button. The FlexStrike can also wake the PS5 from sleep mode using its PS Button. A dedicated sling carry case will be bundled with the controller, as showcased in the recent PlayStation blog post.
While specific pricing and a firm launch date for the FlexStrike have not yet been disclosed, attendees of EVO 2025 will have the opportunity to see the fight stick in person, though hands-on demonstrations won`t be available yet. Sony has indicated that more details will be revealed in the coming months, suggesting price and final release date announcements are imminent, with preorders expected to follow shortly thereafter.
The introduction of the FlexStrike is significant as it marks PlayStation`s first official fight stick peripheral. It will be interesting to observe how Sony`s dedicated PS5 model competes against the array of excellent third-party fight sticks already available, such as PDP`s Victrix Pro FS.
The June 4, 2025 PlayStation State of Play event also brought other exciting fighting game news. This included the reveal of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 team fighting game developed by Arc System Works, featuring Marvel characters, slated for release on PS5 and PC in 2026. Digital Eclipse also announced the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection, a compilation of classic Mortal Kombat titles across arcade, home console, and handheld editions, along with exclusive behind-the-scenes content, set to launch on PS5 and PS4 later in 2025.
