Persona 3 Reload’s Switch 2 Version: A Key-Card Release

Persona 3 Reload, the acclaimed JRPG remake, is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 23, following its release last year on PS5, Xbox, and PC. Pre-orders are currently open, with two editions available: a $60 physical Standard Edition and a $90 Digital Premium Edition, which includes additional DLC. Both editions offer bonus in-game music tracks for pre-ordering.

However, prospective buyers should note two key differences concerning the Switch 2 version. Firstly, the physical release of Persona 3 Reload on Switch 2 will utilize a “Game Key-Card” format. This means the cartridge itself will not contain the game data; instead, it functions as a physical license that allows you to download the digital version directly to your console.

Secondly, there`s a potential disparity in technical performance. While official metrics have not yet been confirmed by Atlus, trailer footage suggests Persona 3 Reload will run at 30 frames per second on Nintendo`s new console. In contrast, the game runs at a smoother 60fps on all other platforms. Although it`s possible the final release could achieve higher framerates than what has been shown, current indications point to the Switch 2 version potentially lagging behind in terms of visual fluidity. Nevertheless, those looking to secure their copy on Switch 2 can do so through various online retailers.

Persona 3 Reload is a comprehensive remake of the original PS2 version of Persona 3, which first launched in 2006. Compared to its predecessor, Reload features significantly updated graphics and soundtrack, an overhauled user interface, a completely re-recorded soundtrack, and an all-new voice cast. It also introduces new characters and story content, along with major gameplay changes designed to make it a more accessible experience compared to previous versions of Persona 3.

One notable omission from both Switch 2 versions of Persona 3 Reload is the Episode Aigis DLC expansion. This post-game content, originally from the Persona 3 FES version on PS2, will be available as a separate $35 purchase via the Nintendo eShop after the main game`s launch. This release strategy aligns with that of the PS5, Xbox, and PC versions, although the exact release date for the DLC on Switch 2 has not yet been confirmed.
