Peak Players Get Creative During Airport Waits with New Update

Waiting can be tedious, especially when there’s little to do. This sentiment resonated with Landfall Games, the developers behind Peak, leading to their latest DillyDally update. This update introduces a range of engaging activities to multiplayer lobbies, aiming to keep players entertained while they await others. New additions include a basketball hoop, a photo booth, and interactive chess pieces.

Immediately after the update, players gravitated towards the chess pieces, but not to play the game in its traditional sense.

“My friend and I got bored after we finished a climb,” shared a user named Imanthony89 on the Peak subreddit. “We used all the chess pieces and bing bong. That`s a queen and a few pawns above the rafters.”

Following its release last week, social media platforms were quickly filled with images and videos showcasing towering stacks of chess pieces reaching the ceilings of the in-game airport lobbies. Peak`s robust physics system, known for enabling unexpected and amusing interactions during climbs, proved perfectly suited for these spontaneous, non-climbing activities among players.

The lobbies in Peak are stylized as airport waiting areas, where the game’s narrative playfully begins with a loading-screen plane crash that sets players on their quest to conquer a procedurally generated mountain. Given the often-challenging nature of these climbs, providing opportunities for fun and relaxation within the terminal makes perfect sense for the “scouts” embarking on their journey.

Since its highly successful launch in June, Landfall Games and publisher Aggro Crab have continued to enhance Peak with several updates. August saw the introduction of the Mesa biome, a challenging new area complete with tornadoes, intense heat, and scorpions. Additionally, a future biome has been hinted at, though specific details remain undisclosed.
