Popular video games frequently inspire imitations. The recent co-op climbing comedy hit, Peak, which launched in June, has continued to enjoy significant success. This game now faces a Roblox counterpart named Cliff, which openly acknowledges Peak as its primary inspiration within its game description.
This development did not go unnoticed by Aggro Crab, one of Peak`s co-developers. They publicly stated on X (formerly Twitter) that they would “rather you pirate our game than play this microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff.” Landfall Games, the other developer behind Peak, simply endorsed this sentiment with a “Cosigned.”
Regarding the microtransactions, Cliff offers various in-game items, such as a climbing pickaxe that reduces stamina usage for 200 Roblox currency, which roughly converts to $2.50 USD. In stark contrast, Peak is available for a one-time purchase of $8 and contains no microtransactions whatsoever.
In other news, Peak recently received a “totally normal” update that introduced a cannibalism feature. Acknowledging that this might not appeal to all players, a subsequent quick patch was released to allow users to disable it. However, the feature is turned on by default, so players who prefer not to view their in-game friends as “delicious rotisserie chicken” will need to navigate to their settings to deactivate it.
