One Battle After Another: 4K Blu-ray Preorders and Literary Roots

Fans of acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson and esteemed novelist Thomas Pynchon can now secure their copies of One Battle After Another on 4K Blu-ray. This action thriller, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio in a compelling leading role, recently premiered in theaters, and multiple physical editions are already available for pre-order. Initial offerings included a Limited Edition Steelbook, which quickly sold out at certain retailers. Standard 4K Blu-ray, 1080p Blu-ray, and DVD formats are also available for reservation.

The 4K Blu-ray versions of One Battle After Another are poised to deliver a premium home cinema experience, boasting support for HDR10 and offering advanced Dolby surround sound modes, specifically Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD 7.1. While specific details regarding special features and official cover artwork are still to be revealed, it is generally anticipated that the Steelbook Edition will include a standard Blu-ray disc and a digital copy. Similarly, the regular 4K Blu-ray and standard Blu-ray editions are also expected to come bundled with digital versions.

Helmed by the visionary Paul Thomas Anderson, One Battle After Another showcases an impressive ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, and Teyana Taylor. This 162-minute action thriller, skillfully interwoven with elements of dark comedy, has already garnered significant critical acclaim, reflected in its remarkable 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many industry observers anticipate it will be a strong contender for prestigious awards in the upcoming season. DiCaprio portrays Bob Ferguson/Pat Calhoun, a former revolutionary perpetually consumed by paranoia, largely stemming from extensive substance use. His arduous mission involves rescuing his daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti), from his formidable arch-nemesis, Col. Steven J. Lockjaw, portrayed by Sean Penn.

One Battle After Another finds its inspiration in Thomas Pynchon`s 1990 novel, Vineland. While the film incorporates the core premise and certain pivotal plot elements from the book, Anderson`s cinematic interpretation is notably not a direct, conventional adaptation. Anderson previously undertook a more faithful cinematic adaptation of Pynchon`s 2009 novel, Inherent Vice, which was released in 2014. Interestingly, Inherent Vice is currently only available on Blu-ray, not 4K Blu-ray. Thomas Pynchon, a celebrated yet famously reclusive American novelist, remains an enigmatic figure, making it unlikely his personal thoughts or opinions on One Battle After Another will ever be publicly known.

For Pynchon enthusiasts, this period marks a particularly exciting time. Not only is there a new Paul Thomas Anderson film influenced by Vineland to enjoy, but a new novel from the legendary author, Shadow Ticket, is also on the horizon. Scheduled for publication on October 7, this eagerly awaited release will be Pynchon`s first novel since 2013`s Bleeding Edge.
