Octopath Traveler 0 Preorder Guide: Editions & Bonuses

Square Enix has officially announced that Octopath Traveler 0, a new installment in the beloved Octopath series, is set to launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC on December 4. This new role-playing game reworks elements from the mobile title, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, into a fresh, standalone single-player experience, offering fans a new way to immerse themselves in its narrative. Preorders are now live for various editions, including a $50 standard edition. There`s also a $70 Digital Deluxe Edition and a substantial $230 Collector`s Edition, available exclusively through Square Enix`s online store. All three versions come with bonus items for those who secure their copy early. Below, you`ll find comprehensive details on all available editions.

By preordering any version of Octopath Traveler 0, players will receive the Travel Provisions Pack. This pack contains valuable in-game items and a skill designed to provide a helpful boost during the early stages of the game. The full contents of this pack are as follows:

  • 5x Healing Grape (M) item
  • 5x Inspiriting Plum (M) item
  • 5x Revitalizing Jam item
  • Icewind Mastery skill

Octopath Traveler 0 Standard Edition

This is the base version of Octopath Traveler 0, including the full game. Preordering this edition grants you the Travel Provisions Pack. Physical preorders are priced at $50 and are available. Digital preorders are also an option.

While physical standard editions for PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch are available, it`s important to note that the Nintendo Switch 2 physical version is a “Game-Key Card” release. This means the game data is not on the cartridge; instead, the card acts as physical DRM, allowing you to download and play the digital version on your Switch 2. The other platforms, however, include the complete game data on their physical media. The Switch 2 is backward compatible with Switch 1 games, so players can opt for the Switch version of Octopath Traveler 0 if they prefer a physical cartridge with game data. However, Square Enix is not offering an upgrade path from the Switch 1 version, meaning if you desire the enhanced performance and visual fidelity of the Switch 2 version, you will need to purchase the Game-Key Card or digital version.

Octopath Traveler 0 marks the third main entry in the Octopath Traveler series. As indicated by the “0” in its title, it is positioned as the earliest chronological story within the series` universe. Players familiar with the first two games will recognize Octopath Traveler 0`s distinctive HD-2D graphics style and turn-based combat system. This installment expands the party size to eight characters in combat, a departure from the four-character parties in previous games. Additionally, Octopath Traveler 0 introduces a new town-building system, where players are tasked with rebuilding their home village after its destruction at the beginning of the story.

For those new to the series, physical copies of the original Octopath Traveler are available for Switch for $50. Octopath Traveler II can be purchased on Switch, PS5, and PS4, with the PS4 release offering a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Furthermore, fans interested in delving deeper into the series` enchanting fantasy world can explore The Art of Octopath Traveler art book, which showcases artwork from across the entire series, including sections dedicated to the Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent mobile game, providing a glimpse into the characters and lore of Octopath Traveler 0. Dark Horse also published Octopath Traveler: The Complete Guide, a strategy guide for the first game that includes a full walkthrough, detailed explanations of game mechanics, and additional art and lore.
