The highly anticipated conclusion to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy is rapidly approaching. Following the successful launch of its middle chapter, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, last year on consoles and PC, producer Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Square Enix has already determined the official announcement date for the final installment. However, he clarified that he wouldn`t be sharing that specific reveal date just yet.
“Development is progressing very smoothly,” Nomura stated during a recent Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis livestream. He added, “The timing for the announcement has been established, and we are committed to adhering to that schedule, so please rest assured and await further news.”
Nomura also briefly mentioned that work on Kingdom Hearts 4 is “on track and progressing according to schedule,” though he provided no further specifics on that long-awaited title. Regarding Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, it remains uncertain whether Square Enix will unveil the game through its own dedicated channels or via a partner event. Historically, the original Final Fantasy 7 Remake was first revealed during the 2015 PlayStation Showcase at E3, while Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth made its debut at Summer Game Fest 2023.
While specific information about the game is currently scarce, series producer Yoshinori Kitase previously revealed in January that the story scenario for Part 3 was completed by the end of 2024, expressing his profound satisfaction with it. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi also confirmed that development on the third game commenced immediately after the completion of Rebirth.
Beyond the significant narrative shifts and plot twists introduced in Rebirth, a noteworthy potential change for the upcoming third game involves a simultaneous multiplatform release. Unlike its predecessors, which were timed exclusives for PlayStation consoles, Square Enix`s evolving multiplatform strategy aims to achieve broader market reach. This shift could potentially lead to a day-and-date launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S, allowing the game to reach a wider audience right from its release.
