Once considered a major disappointment, No Man`s Sky has dramatically turned its fortunes, successfully re-engaging a vast number of players. The recent “Voyagers” update, released last week, introduced a wealth of new features, propelling the game to achieve its highest concurrent player count on Steam since its original launch almost nine years ago.
Sean Murray, co-founder and programmer at Hello Games, acknowledged this significant achievement on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a screenshot that displayed 97,986 concurrent players. Data from SteamDB further confirmed this surge, indicating the peak was slightly higher, reaching 98,285 players. While this figure remains less than half of the game`s initial launch peak of 212,613, it represents an extraordinary comeback, as very few games experience such a robust revival so long after their debut.
The “Voyagers” update itself was substantial, with its most prominent new feature being the introduction of a new starship class: the Corvette. This unique vessel offers extensive customization, allowing players to design it piece by piece, both internally and externally. Once constructed, players can freely walk around inside their personalized ship and traverse the cosmos alongside their friends, enhancing the cooperative exploration experience.
Beyond the ongoing development of No Man`s Sky, Hello Games is also actively developing its next title, Light No Fire. The developer has indicated that much of the advanced technology and innovative features integrated into No Man`s Sky through the “Voyagers” update are expected to be incorporated into their forthcoming fantasy survival game, hinting at exciting possibilities for their future projects.
