The launch of Nintendo`s new Switch 2 console, which occurred just over two months ago, has been exceptionally successful. According to the company`s Q1 financial results (ending June 30), 6 million Switch 2 units were sold globally in the first seven weeks, leading to several new records.
The hybrid console has been in high demand since its release, surpassing all of Nintendo`s expectations. The company still anticipates selling 15 million Switch 2 consoles during its current financial year, which concludes in March 2026. Simultaneously, sales of the original Switch console reached 0.98 million units, bringing its total lifetime sales to an impressive 153.10 million.

Nintendo acknowledges that demand for the Switch 2 currently exceeds supply in many countries and expresses regret for any inconvenience caused to consumers. The company pledges to continue strengthening its production and supply systems to deliver as much Nintendo Switch 2 hardware as possible.
The games segment is also performing well, with sales for Switch 2 titles reaching 8.67 million copies. A significant portion of these sales (5.63 million) came from Mario Kart World, which is not surprising given its frequent inclusion in console bundles.
Looking ahead, Switch 2 owners will have many reasons to be excited with upcoming exclusive titles such as Drag X Drive, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Nintendo recently also held a Direct livestream dedicated to games from third-party studios and developers. While there weren`t many major surprises, several interesting projects were announced, including Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, Octopath Traveler 0, and Borderlands 4.
