Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Back in Stock on Amazon

The highly sought-after Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is once again available on Amazon, following a brief period where it was sold out. This new first-party controller has quickly become a top-selling accessory for the Switch 2 since its listing earlier this month. Amazon resumed selling Nintendo products, including Switch games, accessories, and hardware, in late June after a year-long absence from their inventory. Currently, Amazon features store pages for all official Switch 2 accessories, Nintendo-published games, and new Amiibo figures. While the console itself and the Mario Kart World Bundle are still invitation-only, accessories are more readily available.

Key Features of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller

The Switch 2 Pro Controller boasts a sleek matte black finish complemented by light gray triggers and shoulder buttons. This design provides a distinct visual and tactile difference compared to the original Pro Controller`s translucent plastic and textured grips.

While maintaining a similar ergonomic form factor, the new controller introduces several notable enhancements. The most significant additions are the two back buttons, which can be custom-remapped to any input by simply holding down the Home button. Nintendo has also integrated a new `C button` for GameChat, positioned between the right stick and the D-pad, and a 3.5mm audio jack is now conveniently located on the bottom.

Like its predecessor, the new Pro Controller includes a built-in gyroscope for motion controls, HD Rumble feedback, and NFC support for Amiibo figures. Nintendo has further refined the rumble motors, motion controls, and analog sticks for an improved experience. Although the sticks do not employ Hall Effect sensor technology, they offer noticeably smoother operation and reduced noise compared to the previous model.

Official Nintendo Switch 2 Accessories Available

Beyond the Pro Controller, Amazon also has Joy-Con 2 Controllers in stock, offered in both two-packs and single units. The two-pack provides better value at $94 compared to $55 for individual Joy-Cons. An important note for Joy-Con users: the $40 Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip includes built-in back buttons, effectively allowing you to transform your console`s included Joy-Cons into “pro” controllers when playing in docked mode.

With official Switch 2 carrying cases being difficult to find, the officially licensed RDS Industries Game Traveler Deluxe series comes highly recommended. Hardshell RDS Switch 2 travel cases start at $20, and you can acquire the RDS equivalent of the currently sold-out All-In-One case for just $40, a significant saving from its $85 original price.

Shortly after the Switch 2`s release, 8BitDo provided firmware updates to make many of their customizable controllers fully compatible with the new console. Notably, the flagship 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller performs exceptionally well on the Switch 2.

Detailed Look at 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller

The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Bluetooth Controller is packed with features, including four remappable buttons (two back, two shoulder), adjustable trigger locks with two stopping points, TMR electromagnetic sensors (superior to Hall Effect), and RGB lighting rings. It offers extensive customization through 8BitDo’s software suite on PC and Android, allowing users to set up three custom profiles, modify stick and trigger sensitivity, create deadzones, adjust rumble intensity, and customize lighting effects/colors. Like other Switch 2-compatible 8BitDo controllers, it also includes turbo buttons, which can be particularly useful for certain games.

This controller comes with a matching charging dock that conveniently includes a storage compartment for its 2.4GHz receiver. It supports wireless connectivity via both Bluetooth and 2.4GHz on Nintendo Switch 1/2 consoles and PC. Additionally, the Ultimate 2 can connect wirelessly via Bluetooth to Android devices, Apple hardware, and other compatible platforms.

Introducing the 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad

Another promising alternative for the Switch 2 Pro Controller is the recently unveiled 8BitDo Pro 3 Bluetooth Gamepad, set to release on August 12 for $70. The Pro 3 shares many advanced features with the Ultimate 2, such as TMR sticks, trigger locks, and four remappable buttons. What sets it apart are the swappable magnetic face buttons and an additional pair of unique arcade-style ball-top stick caps.

As the successor to the acclaimed Pro 2 (a top choice for players preferring PlayStation-style stick alignment or retro games), the Pro 3 offers wireless connectivity to Switch 2, original Switch, and PC via both 2.4GHz and Bluetooth. It also supports Apple devices, Steam Deck, Android, and more via Bluetooth. Pre-orders are available in three colors: Gray, G Classic, and a GameCube-inspired purple, each accompanied by a matching charging dock.

Other Notable Third-Party Controllers for Switch 2:

  • GameSir G8 Plus: Designed to cradle the console like a Backbone Controller, functioning as an alternative to Joy-Cons in handheld mode.
  • NYXI Warrior Lite: A wireless controller inspired by the GameCube, featuring remappable back buttons and Hall Effect sticks.
