Nintendo’s Cease & Desist Letter Becomes a Playable Character in Smash Bros. Mod

In a humorous twist, a Super Smash Bros. Melee modder has transformed Nintendo`s infamous cease and desist letter – once used to halt a tournament – into a playable character within the game. This creative act serves as a direct, playful response to Nintendo`s previous legal actions.

The character, aptly named “Cease & Desist,” was developed by modder Mooshies and replaces Kirby`s standard in-game model. Mooshies` witty approach is evident in the character`s design, which features amusing text that sharply contrasts with official legal language, such as “Low key that mod do be sick though,” and “Your mod too tough. Your Game & Watch too different.”

Mooshies is also known for creating the “Jimbo the Clown from Balatro” mod, which applied that character`s skin to Mr. Game & Watch. Initially, this mod was exclusive to Mooshies` Patreon subscribers but was later made available for free. It remains unconfirmed whether Mooshies received any legal communication from Nintendo prior to the release of the new “Cease & Desist” mod. Jokingly, Mooshies announced the “Cease & Desist” skin was priced at “10 morbillion dollars,” a playful jab at the criticism received for previously paywalling the Jimbo the Clown mod. However, Mooshies has since confirmed that all future mods will be free, with Patreon supporters gaining early access.

Earlier this year, former Nintendo employees Krysta Yang and Kit Ellis commented that a high-definition version of Super Smash Bros. Melee is unlikely to be developed. They cited the game`s association with piracy and fan-made modifications, along with the challenge of satisfying the original title`s dedicated fanbase, as key reasons.

Recently, fans have speculated that the original Super Smash Bros. and four other Nintendo 64 games might soon arrive on Switch Online. However, Super Smash Bros. Melee is not currently available on the platform, distinguishing it from a select few other GameCube titles accessible via Switch Online.
