Acquiring a Nintendo Switch 2 continues to be challenging in numerous countries, a situation Nintendo is actively working to resolve. This scarcity was addressed by the company during its first-quarter fiscal 2026 financial briefing, covering the period from April to June 2025.
Nintendo revealed that the Switch 2 has already surpassed 6 million units sold within an impressive span of just seven weeks, marking a substantial volume of consoles moved rapidly. Consequently, the company acknowledged that “demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 surpasses available supply in many regions, and we apologize for the inconvenience this poses to our customers.” Nintendo`s objective is to “enhance its production and distribution networks” to alleviate this problem.
In May, Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, expressed confidence that Switch 2 inventory would satisfy U.S. demand. This statement, made weeks before the console`s release, aligned with Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa`s perspective that pricing would be a primary driver for initial hardware sales.
By contrast, both Microsoft`s Xbox Series X and Sony`s PlayStation 5 experienced supply difficulties for nearly a year post-launch, though it`s worth noting these systems debuted during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite initial concerns, the Switch 2 quickly became the fastest-selling home console in history, achieving 3.5 million sales within just four days. Furthermore, the console contributed significantly to breaking a U.S. hardware sales record for June, a record that had remained unbroken for close to two decades.
Meanwhile, the pricing for the original Nintendo Switch console lineup is set to increase in the U.S. in the coming days. While this adjustment does not currently impact the Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, future changes are possible. However, some Switch 2 accessories will indeed see price hikes.
