Ahead of its theatrical sequel release this October, the 2021 “Mortal Kombat” movie is receiving a collectible 4K Blu-ray Steelbook edition. This limited edition will be available for preorder at a reduced price, offering fans a chance to rewatch the film before “Mortal Kombat II” premieres on October 24. The new edition is set to launch on October 7. Additionally, fans can enhance their Blu-ray collections with other live-action and animated “Mortal Kombat” adaptations, many of which are available at affordable prices.
The Limited Edition Steelbook boasts a completely new cover design. The front features Scorpion`s iconic mask, while the back showcases his deadly kunai. Inside, the cover art displays a still from the movie featuring Sub-Zero as he prepares an ice-dagger weapon. The film is presented in upscaled 4K resolution and supports HDR10. For audio, various Dolby surround sound options are included, such as Atmos, TrueHD 7.1, and Digital 5.1.
Bonus materials for this release are not yet listed, and it`s possible that special features from earlier Blu-ray editions might be omitted. The original 2021 4K release included a 1080p Blu-ray disc with bonus content, but this Limited Edition Steelbook only comes with a single 4K disc.
The Steelbook Edition also includes a voucher to claim the digital version of “Mortal Kombat.” As an added benefit, it`s compatible with Movies Anywhere, allowing you to download or stream the film across a wide range of applications and devices.
The 2021 reboot stands as a brutal adaptation of the legendary fighting game series. It faithfully translates the fantastical narrative of the games into a real-world setting, pitting beloved characters like Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and newcomer Cole Young against Shang Tsung and his formidable forces.

Mortal Kombat Movies on Blu-ray
The “Mortal Kombat” franchise has a rich history across both the big and small screens. You can revisit this legacy through various Blu-ray editions currently available. The original, delightfully cheesy 1995 film remains a classic, while its infamous sequel, “Mortal Kombat Annihilation,” is still comically bad. Also noteworthy is “Mortal Kombat Legacy,” a live-action web series that ran for two seasons and marked a significant improvement in adaptation quality.
Live-Action Mortal Kombat Films:
- Mortal Kombat (1995)
- Mortal Kombat Triple Feature (Includes 1990s films + Legacy Season 1)
- Mortal Kombat: Legacy (Season 1)
- Mortal Kombat: Legacy (Season 2)
- Mortal Kombat (2021)
- Mortal Kombat (2021, 4K Edition)
- Mortal Kombat (2021, 4K Steelbook Edition)
Mortal Kombat Legends Animated Movies:

On the animated front, the recent “Mortal Kombat Legends” series has provided fans with four impressive films, each centered on a popular character from the games. These animated features are unapologetically violent, vividly painting the screen red during their spectacular combat sequences. All four “Mortal Kombat Legends” movies are available on both 4K Blu-ray and 1080p Blu-ray.
- Scorpion`s Revenge (2020)
- Battle of the Realms (2021)
- Snow Blind (2022)
- Cage Match (2023)
In addition to the forthcoming sequel, “Mortal Kombat” enthusiasts have an exciting retro game collection to anticipate. The “Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection” is scheduled for release on December 12 for consoles and PC. Preorders for this collection opened earlier this month.
