In the upcoming Battlefield 6, developer DICE is introducing a new system where each class will progressively earn passive perks throughout a match, eventually gaining access to a powerful active ability. This initiative is part of DICE`s broader goal to enhance the distinct roles and strengths of each class, following their previous announcement that weapon restrictions by class would be removed.
The core of this new feature is called “Training”. Players can select one of two different Training paths for their chosen class. As players engage with objectives and contribute to teamplay during a match, their Training will level up, granting them incremental passive bonuses unique to that path. Upon reaching Training level three, players unlock and can activate a unique, powerful ability for their class.
DICE provided the Recon class as an example. At level three, the Recon class gains the ability to deploy a UAV that automatically spots nearby enemies for a limited duration. The passive perks earned at levels zero, one, and two differ based on the chosen Training path (e.g., Sniper Training vs. Pathfinder Training), but the ultimate level-three active ability is consistent for the class, with each class having only one such ability. Activating the level-three ability resets the player`s Training back to level two, allowing them to begin earning charge for the ability again.
Expanding on the Recon example: choosing the Sniper Training path grants improved spotting early on, leading to a level-two perk where enemies defeated by sniper headshots cannot be revived. Conversely, the Pathfinder Training tree enhances movement speed while crouching or prone at level zero and causes enemies to be automatically spotted when damaged at level two.
Training appears to be a significant addition aimed at encouraging players to effectively perform their class roles and fostering teamwork. While the level-three abilities for the other three classes were not detailed in the blog post, DICE confirmed the system has been implemented and tested in the recent Battlefield Lab play sessions.
DICE also outlined the signature weapon class, traits, and gadgets associated with each of Battlefield 6`s four classes. While players have the freedom to equip any weapon regardless of class, using a class`s signature weapon type will provide additional passive benefits.

DICE stated that the game is still undergoing changes based on player feedback from the Battlefield Lab tests. They mentioned removing Ballistic Armor based on community input and are working on refining movement, animation, and vehicle handling.
Players interested in getting hands-on with the new Battlefield can register for future playtests through Battlefield Labs. During an earnings call in May, EA CEO Andrew Wilson indicated that a full reveal for Battlefield 6 is scheduled for this summer, with the game expected to launch before March 2026.
