After nearly five years since its initial announcement, Netflix`s highly anticipated “Assassin`s Creed” series is finally moving forward.
Netflix has officially greenlit the project, naming Robert Patino (known for “Westworld” and “Sons of Anarchy”) and David Wiener (from “Halo” and “The Killing”) as creators, showrunners, and executive producers. This decision follows the departure of previous showrunner Jeb Stuart in 2023 due to “differences in vision.”
The official show description promises an exhilarating thriller centered on a secret war between two powerful factions: one determined to control and manipulate humanity`s future, while the other strives to preserve free will. The series will follow characters through pivotal historical events as they strive to shape humanity`s destiny.

In a joint statement, Wiener and Patino emphasized their long-standing admiration for the “Assassin`s Creed” series since its 2007 debut, expressing both excitement and humility regarding the vast possibilities this project presents.
They also stated: “Beyond the grand scope, spectacle, parkour, and thrilling action lies the foundation of the most crucial human story—one about individuals seeking purpose, grappling with questions of identity, destiny, and faith. It delves into power, violence, desire, greed, and vengeance. Yet, above all, this series highlights the profound value of human connection, transcending cultures and time.”
The “Assassin`s Creed” project remains in its early development stages, with no information yet available regarding the cast or an anticipated release date.
It`s worth noting that previously, in 2016, 20th Century Fox released a live-action “Assassin`s Creed” film starring Michael Fassbender, which grossed over $240 million worldwide.
In addition to this new live-action series, Netflix is also developing an animated series based on the “Assassin`s Creed” universe. Furthermore, Ubisoft is creating a new “Assassin`s Creed” game specifically for the Netflix Games platform.
