Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann Responds to The Last of Us’s 16 Emmy Nominations

The highly anticipated nominations for the 2025 Emmy Awards have been revealed, with HBO`s acclaimed series `The Last of Us,` an adaptation of Naughty Dog`s popular video game franchise, earning a significant number of acknowledgments.

`The Last of Us` stood out as a heavily nominated program this year, securing 16 nominations. Notably, Pedro Pascal, who portrays Joel, received a Best Actor nod despite his limited appearance in only three episodes. Bella Ramsey, playing Ellie, was recognized with a Best Actress nomination. Supporting actors Kaitlyn Dever (Abby), Catherine O`Hara (Gail), Jeffrey Wright (Isaac), and Joe Pantoliano (Eugene) also garnered nominations. The series itself was nominated for Best Drama.

Further accolades for the series encompassed categories such as Best Production Design, Casting, Picture Editing, Contemporary Makeup, Prosthetic Makeup, Music Supervision, Nonfiction Short (for its accompanying documentary), Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Special Visual Effects.

However, the series did not receive nominations for writing or directing. There was also a notable sentiment among observers that Isabela Merced was overlooked for her significant performance as Dina.

Naughty Dog`s head, Neil Druckmann, extended his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the entire development team at Naughty Dog, thank you to the Academy, and a huge congrats to the entire cast & crew of The Last of Us Season 2 on their Emmy nominations!” He added that witnessing `The Last of Us Part II`s` narrative gain new recognition and attract new fans has been profoundly rewarding for the studio.

In terms of overall nominations, Apple`s `Severance` topped the list with an impressive 27 nods. HBO`s `The Penguin` followed with 24, while `The Studio` and `The White Lotus` each garnered 23 nominations.

A third season of `The Last of Us` is confirmed, slated to delve into Abby`s storyline, though an release date for Season 3 has not yet been announced.

Regarding the video game series, `The Last of Us Part II Remastered` recently received an update introducing a chronological gameplay mode. Furthermore, Naughty Dog is reportedly developing `The Last of Us Part III` alongside a new title, `Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.`
