Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema recently released deliberately campy Johnny Cage posters to promote Mortal Kombat 2, the upcoming sequel to their 2021 reboot film. Excitingly, the highly anticipated first trailer for Mortal Kombat 2 is set to debut very soon.
A `kountdown` on Warner Bros.` YouTube channel indicates the Mortal Kombat 2 trailer will premiere on Thursday, July 17, at 8:05 AM PT (11:05 AM ET). Key new cast members include Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Tati Gabrielle as Jade.
Lewis Tan will return as Cole Young, the new character introduced as the protagonist in the first film, though his exact role in the sequel remains unspecified. Many familiar faces are also set to reappear, such as Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Mehcad Brooks (Jackson `Jax` Briggs), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), and Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion).
Intriguingly, characters like Kano (Josh Lawson) and Kung Lao (Max Huang), who seemingly died in the first movie, are confirmed to return. Damon Herriman, previously the voice of Kabal, will now portray the sorcerer Quan Chi. Furthermore, Joe Taslim`s Sub-Zero/Bi-Han is expected to reappear as Noob Saibot.
Mortal Kombat 2 is scheduled for theatrical release on October 24, 2025. For fans of the classic games that reportedly inspired the film, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will be available later this year. This compilation will feature the first four Mortal Kombat games, including their console and handheld versions.
