Monopoly: Pokémon Edition Returns, Now $20!

The highly sought-after Pokémon-themed version of the timeless board game Monopoly is once again available and priced at $20 (down from $25) on Amazon. This edition, which launched in December, has seldom seen its price drop below its original $25 retail value. The current $20 offer nearly matches its lowest historical price of $18.74, a deal that quickly sold out when it appeared on Amazon in July. Similar discounts are also offered by Walmart and Target.

Those interested in this offer should act promptly. Pokémon Monopoly frequently appears on Amazon`s bestseller lists for board games even at full price, indicating a high likelihood of it selling out quickly (as it has before).

About Monopoly: Pokémon Edition

In the Pokémon Monopoly Edition, players, ranging from two to four, deviate from standard Monopoly gameplay by utilizing Poké Balls to seek out Pokémon across various board locations, rather than acquiring properties with traditional Monopoly money. The primary objective is to capture eight distinct Pokémon types or to be the final trainer remaining with any Poké Balls. The game includes a vibrant board showcasing iconic series locations and features charming miniature tokens representing Pikachu, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

The immense popularity of this particular Pokémon Monopoly edition is hardly unexpected. What has, however, proven somewhat surprising is its initial retail price of just $25, given that licensed Monopoly versions tied to major media franchises typically command prices around $40.

Exploring Other Pokémon Board Games

This marks another collaboration between Hasbro and The Pokémon Company for a Pokémon-themed Monopoly game, not their first. Previous iterations of the game are no longer in production and can only be found through secondary market sellers. For example, the Monopoly: Pokémon Kanto Edition is available for $45 on Amazon, featuring metal playing pieces of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Eevee, and Jigglypuff. Walmart also offers the Monopoly: Pokémon Johto Edition for $58, which comes with six metal game tokens: Pikachu, Totodile, Togepi, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Pichu.

Should you be interested in other classic board games with a Pokémon twist, consider Ravensburger’s Pokémon Labyrinth. The objective is to guide your character through a constantly changing labyrinth to locate different Pokémon. Games are relatively brief, lasting about 30 minutes, and support up to four players. A glow-in-the-dark variant of Pokémon Labyrinth was released last autumn. Both versions are priced at $30.

Furthermore, for those keen on learning the Pokémon Trading Card Game, three affordably priced editions of Pokémon Battle Academy are available. Each set includes multiple decks, providing an excellent entry point for both children and adults new to the TCG.
