After an extensive period of anticipation, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond finally has a definitive release date: December 4th. This highly awaited title, slated for both Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2, was officially unveiled during the recent Nintendo Direct event. The reveal was accompanied by a thrilling new gameplay trailer that notably showcased protagonist Samus Aran piloting a sleek, futuristic motorcycle reminiscent of Batman`s iconic vehicles.
The new video footage immerses viewers from the start, featuring Samus mounting her unique new vehicle, dubbed Vi-O-La. The trailer then follows the renowned bounty hunter as she speeds across expansive desert open-world environments, engaging in combat directly from the motorcycle. Further showcasing the game`s diverse settings, the footage also transitions to a snowy landscape, where Samus is seen battling formidable wolf-like adversaries amidst a fierce blizzard. A significant highlight towards the end of the trailer is a dramatic appearance by the mysterious character, Sylux.
Beyond the game`s release announcement, Nintendo also took the opportunity to introduce three new Amiibo figures inspired by Metroid Prime 4. Two of these collectible figurines are set to launch on November 6th: one depicting Samus in her iconic pose, and another featuring Samus dynamically riding the Vi-O-La motorcycle. The third Amiibo, portraying Sylux, will become available alongside the game`s release on December 4th.
The journey of Metroid Prime 4 has been a long one, originating with its initial announcement at E3 2017, a remarkable eight years prior to this latest update. Development faced a significant reset in early 2019, at which point Retro Studios—the original creators of the Metroid Prime subseries, which began in 2002 and included the first three acclaimed main entries—took over the reins. Earlier this year, select journalists and industry professionals were granted an exclusive hands-on preview, offering a first look at the game`s progress.
