Nintendo has officially unveiled Mario Tennis Fever, a fresh entry in the beloved sports franchise, slated for an exclusive release on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement, made during a recent Nintendo Direct event, confirms the game`s anticipated launch date as February 12, 2026.
A standout new mechanic in Mario Tennis Fever is the introduction of “Fever rackets,” a feature central to the game`s title. These unique rackets possess a “Fever gauge” that players can charge to execute powerful “Fever shots,” such as engulfing the court in flames or freezing it with ice. For instance, the Mini Mushroom racket can shrink opponents by scattering the item across their court. Nintendo has confirmed a total of 30 distinct Fever rackets, each endowed with a special, game-changing ability.
Mario Tennis Fever boasts an impressive roster of 38 playable characters, marking the largest selection in the series` history, as revealed by Nintendo. While many fan-favorite characters, including Yoshi and Donkey Kong, are confirmed, the initial trailer did not appear to introduce any entirely new characters, focusing instead on the established cast.
Players can look forward to an engaging Adventure mode in Mario Tennis Fever, where Mario and his companions are mysteriously transformed into babies. This unique premise requires them to master tennis anew, navigating an overworld, engaging in various minigames, and participating in challenging boss battles. Nintendo also detailed several additional gameplay modes, including Tournament, Trial Towers, Mix It Up, Online Room, and Online Ranked, promising a comprehensive experience for all types of players.
The most recent installment in the Mario Tennis series, Mario Tennis Aces, debuted on the original Nintendo Switch console in 2018. The franchise itself originated in 2000 with the release of Mario Tennis for the Nintendo 64, establishing a long-standing legacy of fun and competitive tennis action.
