Love and Deepspace has rapidly become a global sensation, swiftly amassing 50 million users within its initial year of release. The mobile dating game also generated significant revenue, including a record-breaking $61 million in December 2024 alone, contributing to a total of $400 million earned in 2024. Yet, despite this widespread success, Infold`s popular title can still be viewed as a somewhat hidden gem.
Mobile games, particularly dating simulations catering to a female audience, frequently encounter skepticism, and Love and Deepspace is no different. Yet, through my experience playing the game, I`ve consistently surprised friends by revealing its true nature. With its engaging combat, breathtaking visuals, intricate sci-fi world, and dedication to storytelling that explores `seemingly negative emotions,` trauma, and challenging themes, Love and Deepspace effectively challenges many conventional stereotypes.
Interestingly, Love and Deepspace has even challenged the long-held beliefs of its own development team. Following the “Witnessed by Deepspace” update on July 3, which had a wedding theme, I communicated with the Infold team. Our discussion revealed that the process of designing for a female audience has provided their male developers with “progressively deeper insights into female player psychology.” It also seems Infold is open to pushing boundaries regarding player expectations of love, implying that controversial story elements, such as the demise of a love interest, are not off the table.

Standard romance games rarely feature combat, yet in Love and Deepspace, the combat system is integral. How does this combat, along with the game`s new roguelike mode, enrich the romantic storyline and players` emotional experience?
From our initial concept, “fighting side by side” was a foundational element. We believed it perfectly captured the essence of romantic relationships: two individuals confronting life`s challenges together, evolving, and advancing into the future as a unified pair.
Consequently, we built both our gameplay mechanics and lore around this core principle. In this futuristic setting, players and their chosen love interest confront formidable creatures known as Wanderers, which originate from Deepspace. Through these battles, they progressively uncover the world`s mysteries and overcome its obstacles. This shared journey naturally cultivates mutual support, leading to a deeper relationship. Within the game`s narratives, combat and romance are inherently linked; the bond forged through fighting and growing together becomes exceptionally robust and emotionally resonant.
The “UNICORNS Operation” introduced in this update marks the game`s third roguelike combat mode, succeeding the popular “Abyssal Chaos—Find Tobias” and “Abyssal Chaos—Final Farewell.” Each of our roguelike modes incorporates distinct progression and team composition mechanics, crafted to deliver a uniquely satisfying combat experience. Furthermore, “UNICORNS Operation” introduces exploration gameplay, enabling players to navigate Tanakahli and engage with its three factions. As they delve deeper into investigations and approach the truth, players will uncover new dimensions of characters` personalities and forge additional memories with them. Both cooperative combat and joint exploration allow players to gain a more profound understanding of their love interests, leading to special emotional experiences that transcend typical daily interactions.
How does the team manage to create stories that are deeply emotional, high-stakes, and occasionally heartbreaking, while simultaneously ensuring players experience comfort and happiness? Are there specific boundaries, such as the permanent loss of a love interest, that the development team is unwilling to cross?
Our creative process is built around the enduring themes of “characters” and “love.” However, we do not impose self-imposed limits on avoiding tragic elements, such as ensuring a love interest never perishes. In our creation process, we actively embrace the depiction of lovers` disagreements, emotional struggles, and even the sorrow of losing a loved one. These challenges are universal human experiences. When such narratives emerge, our priority is to explore their profound connection with love, examining how love empowers us to confront pain and conflict, bestows strength, and cultivates resilience within our hearts.
Beyond simply expressing love, our design philosophy for every detail, storyline, and piece of dialogue is profoundly character-centric. The game intricately unfolds the world of Love and Deepspace, depicting events in Linkon City at a specific moment, offering players a more expansive and interconnected understanding of each character. While individual narratives may indeed feature tragic components, these moments ultimately serve to deepen the players` bond with the characters. Should players feel a sense of healing or satisfaction after engaging with a story that contains tragic elements, it may well be because they have truly connected with their love interest`s essence within that narrative.

What was the inspiration behind the team`s decision to launch a wedding-themed event? Furthermore, what guided the design choices for each of the distinct wedding gowns and rings?
With nearly a year and a half passed since the game`s official launch, we believe players have reached a significant point in their emotional development with their chosen love interests and have forged numerous cherished memories within the game. To mark this milestone, we sought to offer players a grand ceremonial vow—a pledge of love and a declaration of happiness—which led us to select the “Witnessed by Deepspace” theme.
The formal attire for all five love interests, alongside their corresponding dresses and rings, was meticulously designed to reflect each character`s unique demeanor and emotional connections. These ensembles feature intricate and thoughtful details:
- Xavier: His design incorporates Wavyleaf Sea Lavender and star trails intricately woven into galactic patterns, among other decorative elements. The overall aesthetic evokes a dreamlike and dignified feel, mirroring his noble and refined elegance.
- Rafayel: His ensemble features flame lilies, starfish, ocean waves, and motifs combining fire and water, symbolizing a romance deeply connected to the ocean.
- Zayne: His appearance showcases white jasmines, snowflake-cut diamonds, and frost-like embroidery, resulting in a reserved, graceful demeanor rich in intricate details.
- Sylus: His design draws inspiration from datura flowers and fluttering feathers, creating a free-spirited aesthetic that perfectly expresses his mature and distinctive temperament.
- Caleb: His ensemble primarily draws inspiration from black holes and paper cranes, emphasizing the theme of destiny. For example, the chain connecting his bow tie to his chest symbolizes the intertwined bonds of fate.
This update introduces numerous new features, such as an enhanced AR companionship system, a journal module, the option for cat adoption, and a new roguelike mode. Which of these features are you most eager for players to experience?
Selecting a single feature is exceptionally challenging, as we consider all of them vital. In Love and Deepspace, superior combat, engaging companionship, and expertly crafted narrative elements all contribute to the holistic player experience, making it difficult to pinpoint one as superior. What we can definitively state is that providing players with the finest, most unique gaming experience has always been our fundamental principle and objective. Consequently, we have dedicated immense effort and meticulous refinement to every single feature.

Despite women demonstrating a gaming propensity equal to men, this demographic frequently remains underserved or overlooked by many studios. Consequently, Love and Deepspace plays a uniquely significant and vital role within the industry. What is the experience like designing a game for a predominantly female player base?
Our overarching objective has consistently been to create more immersive, visually rich experiences of superior quality for players.
Your team appears to possess an exceptional understanding of how to develop stories and gameplay that resonate with young women. This leads me to wonder: What is the percentage of women on your team? And have the male developers found that their work on the game has improved their understanding of female psychology?
We have a considerable number of female employees on our team, who are integral to significant decision-making processes. Throughout the development journey, our male employees have progressively gained deeper insights into female player psychology. The unifying objective that all team members strive for is to deliver a superior game experience to our players, one that demonstrates respect and meticulous attention to detail.
