Lost in Space 4K Blu-ray: Limited Edition Price Drop

Arrow Video has significantly reduced the price of its upcoming 4K restoration of the 1998 sci-fi film Lost in Space. The Limited Edition is now available for preorder at a discounted price of $33, down from its original $50, ahead of its release on September 2.

Directed by Stephen Hopkins and starring Gary Oldman and William Hurt, the 1998 adaptation of Lost in Space was not critically acclaimed upon its release. However, much like the original 1960s TV series it was based on—which also wasn`t a critical darling—both the film and the series achieved commercial success and are now widely regarded as cult classics. The franchise saw a modern resurgence with Netflix`s reimagining of the original series, which aired for three seasons starting in 2018.

For fans who enjoyed the recent Netflix series but haven`t seen the 1998 film, this new 4K Blu-ray edition offers the definitive viewing experience. Longtime devotees of Lost in Space will find this Limited Edition, consistent with Arrow Video`s reputation for high-quality restorations of classic films, to be an exceptional collector`s item.

Restoration Details and Special Features

The 4K Blu-ray edition of Lost in Space boasts a native 4K (2160p) restoration meticulously crafted from the original camera negative, a process personally approved by director Stephen Hopkins. It faithfully retains the film`s original aspect ratio and supports High Dynamic Range (HDR), including both Dolby Vision and HDR10. Audio options are equally impressive, featuring lossless stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound.

The Limited Edition is presented with premium packaging, including a reversible sleeve. One side showcases the original theatrical poster, while the other features an exclusive, brand-new illustration that is visually striking. Also included is an illustrated booklet containing commentary from film critic Neil Sinyard, original production notes, and multiple articles about the movie that first appeared in American Cinematographer magazine.

In addition to these physical collectibles, the set is loaded with extensive on-disc bonus content. This includes brand-new interviews and a wealth of archival featurettes previously seen on past Blu-ray and DVD editions. A comprehensive list of the features included in the Lost in Space Limited Edition is provided below.

The 1998 Lost in Space film cleverly adapted core elements from its television predecessor, reshaping them for the big screen. It maintains the central premise of the Robinson family`s involuntary journey to a distant galaxy—a predicament orchestrated by Gary Oldman`s treacherous Dr. Zachary Smith—while introducing new narrative elements and groundbreaking visual effects for its era. The film features an impressive ensemble cast, including William Hurt, Mimi Rogers, Matt LeBlanc, and Heather Graham. Its release marked a significant strategic shift for New Line Cinema, moving the studio beyond its traditional focus on low-budget horror and acclaimed independent films towards producing major box office blockbusters.
