CI Games has unveiled the evolution of the Umbral realm in Lords of the Fallen 2 through two new videos: a glimpse into gameplay and a behind-the-scenes deep dive with the developers.
This dimension of the dead, previously introduced in the first installment, transforms into an even more central and menacing element. The boundary between the living world and that of the undead drastically thins, giving rise to a constantly mutating universe permeated by an oppressive atmosphere.
Ryan Hill, Chief Creative Officer at CI Games, highlights that Umbral is now configured as the true kingdom of the undead, ready to react with increasing hostility to the player’s presence, unleashing all manner of threats against them.
The celebrated mechanic of transitioning between the world of Axiom and the parallel dimension of Umbral, facilitated by the use of a lantern, will remain a key element. It will be essential for discovering hidden paths and overcoming obstacles.
An Increasingly Lethal Realm
Lords of the Fallen 2 will present a decidedly more dynamic and unpredictable version of Umbral. Scenarios have been redesigned to offer greater variety, enriched with new narrative elements and a brutal combat system that allows for enemy dismemberment.
The threat system has also been profoundly re-elaborated. It will no longer be a simple countdown but an organic mechanic that adapts to the player’s actions, generating a more constant and palpable sense of danger.
A new lineage of enemies will further heighten the unease. These creatures will not only evolve into increasingly deadly forms but will also be capable of setting ambushes in a world where nothing can be taken for granted. The result will be a more intense and complex gaming experience, true to the soulslike nature of Lords of the Fallen 2.
