Little Nightmares III: Cross-Platform Play and Cross-Saves Explained

The Little Nightmares series has been unsettling players since its debut in 2017, and the third installment continues its tradition of eerie creatures, perilous exploration, and melancholic narratives. Unlike its predecessors, Little Nightmares III introduces online co-op, allowing players to brave its creepy world with a companion. However, there are specific limitations regarding cross-play and cross-progression that players should be aware of.

Does Little Nightmares III Feature Cross-Play?

If you were hoping to team up with friends across different gaming ecosystems, you might be out of luck. Little Nightmares III does not support cross-play between distinct platforms. However, it does allow cross-generational play within the same ecosystem family. Here’s a breakdown:

  • PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users can play together.
  • Xbox One and Xbox Series X users can play together.
  • Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 users can play together.
  • PC players can only play with other PC players.

While joining players on entirely different platforms isn`t an option, it`s reassuring to know you can still connect with friends on previous-generation consoles within the same family and embark on the adventure together.

Furthermore, Little Nightmares III includes a “Friend`s Pass,” which enables online co-op with only a single copy of the game, similar to titles like A Way Out or It Takes Two. One player purchases the game, and their friend can join at no additional cost to play through the journey together. It`s important to note, however, that this specific save file will be tied to playing with that friend; starting a new save will be necessary for single-player mode.

Does Little Nightmares III Support Cross-Progression?

Regrettably, Little Nightmares III does not support cross-progression features. This means you will need to complete the game on the platform where you originally purchased it, as save data cannot be transferred between different platforms.

Little Nightmares III is set to launch on October 10 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
