The Caped Crusader returns next year with Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, launching on May 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This all-new title pays tribute to multiple eras of the iconic hero, inviting players to explore varied versions of Gotham City alongside numerous Lego-ified incarnations of Batman.
Preorders are currently available for two versions: the $70 Standard Edition and the $90 Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition grants access to new gear, vehicles, and most significantly, 72 hours of early access to the full game. All preorders, regardless of the version chosen, include a bonus cosmetic item.
Editor`s Note on Physical Release:
It has been confirmed that the physical Switch 2 version of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a Game Key-Card release. Unlike the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, which include the full game data on the disc, the Switch 2 card only contains a physical DRM key, requiring players to download the full digital edition from the Nintendo eShop. Early cover art misleadingly suggested the full game was included, and the artwork is expected to be updated.
Preorder Bonuses and Early Access

Preordering any version of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will immediately unlock the Batsuit featured in The Dark Knight Returns, a classic blue-and-grey costume inspired by the legendary comic book miniseries.

Gameplay and The Bat-Family
While visually familiar, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight features a significantly overhauled combat system. It adopts a free-flow combat style, inspired by Rocksteady’s critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham games, but is fine-tuned to be easily learnable and masterable by younger players. Players will face off against increasingly large and better-equipped groups of enemies.
Batman will not face the threats to Gotham alone. The Bat-Family roster includes Detective Jim Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Catwoman, all joining the Dark Knight throughout the campaign.
Each playable character possesses unique skills and gadgets. For example, Gordon uses a foam-sprayer to incapacitate enemies, Batgirl utilizes a “hackarang” to bypass security systems, and Nightwing employs a specialized battle-staff. All this action takes place within an expansive open-world recreation of Gotham City, where the Bat-Family confronts a legendary cast of supervillains, including the Joker, Ra’s al Ghul, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Bane, and Firefly.
The Batcave and Customization
Players can develop and acquire various new Batmobiles to navigate Gotham, including iconic vehicles seen in media such as Batman ‘89, The Dark Knight, and Batman: The Animated Series.
When not engaged in crime-fighting, Batman can return to the Batcave, which serves as a central hub for customization. The Batcave is littered with Easter eggs, such as Two-Face’s giant penny and an extensive collection of Batsuits. In total, the game offers an impressive 100 unique suits and outfits for the Bat-Family to discover and collect.
