Doug Bowser, who has admirably served as the president of Nintendo of America for over a decade, is scheduled to retire from his position on December 31. His pivotal role will subsequently be assumed by Devon Pritchard, currently holding the title of executive vice president within the company, effective January 1, 2025.
In an official press release, Bowser articulated his profound honor in having led Nintendo of America throughout the past decade. He expressed significant pride in the collective achievements of his team, which have benefited both the company and its dedicated consumer base. Furthermore, he extended high praise to Pritchard, affirming that Nintendo of America is well-prepared for this new chapter of leadership.
“It has been an incredible privilege to lead Nintendo of America for the last decade, and I am immensely proud of the contributions our team has made to the business and our dedicated consumers,” Bowser stated. “The time has come for the next generation of leadership, and Devon`s impressive career trajectory speaks volumes. She is an exceptional leader, and her promotion underscores her strong performance and strategic contributions to the company`s growth. I am fully confident that she will steer the company to even greater success.”
Devon Pritchard, whose tenure with Nintendo began in June 2006, currently functions as the executive vice president overseeing Revenue, Marketing, and Consumer Experience. In the same announcement, she conveyed both her humility and enthusiasm regarding her new appointment. Pritchard`s primary focus, she noted, will be to uphold Nintendo`s enduring commitment to its legacy of “surprising and delighting” its extensive fanbase.
“I am both humbled and thrilled to embrace this new role,” Pritchard remarked. “Doug has been an extraordinary mentor, and I am eager to build upon the solid foundation he has helped establish. With beloved characters and diverse worlds that appeal to everyone, my objective will be to continue fostering Nintendo`s tradition of captivating our long-standing fans, while simultaneously welcoming new players into the Nintendo family.”
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to Bowser for his “numerous contributions” during his leadership. Furukawa also expressed his firm assurance that Pritchard will “continue to uphold Nintendo’s crucial mission of creating smiles” for players worldwide.
In addition to her new presidential duties, Pritchard will also be appointed to Nintendo of America`s Board of Directors and will serve as an Executive Officer. Joining her on the Board will be senior Nintendo executive Satoru Shibata. Shibata will also assume the role of chief executive officer for Nintendo of America, alongside his ongoing responsibilities as the company`s managing executive officer and corporate director.
