Kojima Envisions Death Stranding 3’s Concept, Hopes Others Will Create It

Hideo Kojima, the renowned game director and writer, recently shed light on the future of his distinctive Death Stranding franchise. While he currently has no intention of personally developing Death Stranding 3, he revealed that he has already conceptualized its core ideas.

Speaking in Riyadh via a translator, Kojima stated: “I am not planning to do [Death Stranding 3] at the moment… The ending of Death Stranding 2 was my finale for the first two games. However, I`ve already penned the concept for DS3.” He further expressed, “I hope that someone will create it for me.”

These insightful remarks were initially highlighted by Genki, following a comprehensive interview with the gaming auteur.

Kojima`s current stance echoes statements he made previously. Back in May, prior to the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the developer had indicated that while he possessed ideas for a potential third installment, he wouldn`t be undertaking its development himself. His position on the matter appears to remain consistent.

This approach draws parallels to Naughty Dog`s comments regarding the Uncharted series. After delivering a series of critically and commercially successful games, Naughty Dog suggested they would not develop Uncharted 5 but were receptive to the idea of a different studio taking on the franchise.

Given the critical acclaim and commercial success of the Death Stranding games, alongside Kojima`s involvement in a movie adaptation with A24, a third game undeniably presents a clear business prospect. Nevertheless, Kojima is currently immersed in numerous other ventures.

His ongoing projects include “OD,” a collaboration with Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele and Xbox, and “Physint,” an espionage-themed game being developed with Sony.

Despite recently marking his 62nd birthday, a time when many individuals might contemplate retirement, Kojima has firmly affirmed his commitment to continuous creation, stating his intention to keep working throughout his life.
