King K. Rool Donkey Kong Amiibo Returns After Years Off the Market

Nintendo is re-releasing the highly sought-after King K. Rool Amiibo, a collector`s item that has been out of print for several years. This revival comes shortly after the launch of Donkey Kong Bananza. The reprint of this classic Donkey Kong villain—excluding Donkey Kong himself, of course—is set to debut on September 4 and is currently available for preorder at Best Buy. This marks the first Amiibo reprint since Nintendo adjusted the price for original Switch Amiibo figures from $16 to $20.

The King K. Rool Amiibo can be paired with the Donkey Kong & Pauline Amiibo, which was released in July alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title for $30.

Originally launched in 2019 as part of the Super Smash Bros. series, the King K. Rool Amiibo has been one of many figures from the Donkey Kong universe to become rare. Resellers on platforms like Amazon often list the figure for over $50, with eBay prices typically around $40. While the upcoming reprint will be priced at $20—an increase from its original $16—it still offers a significantly more affordable option compared to what enthusiasts have been paying on the secondary market for years.

Collectors interested in adding King K. Rool to their Amiibo collection are advised to place a preorder promptly. It remains uncertain if other retailers beyond Best Buy will stock this reprint, but updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

There is hope among fans that Nintendo will soon reissue other Donkey Kong Amiibo figures as well.

Throughout the years, only a limited number of Donkey Kong Amiibo figures have been produced, and most unfortunately remain out of print. Recently, the Nintendo Store restocked the 2016 Diddy Kong Amiibo, priced at $20. Currently, only DK, King K. Rool, Diddy, and Pauline have received Amiibo figures. Notably, the Bananza Amiibo was the first new DK Amiibo to be released since King K. Rool`s debut six years prior.

For those considering out-of-print Donkey Kong Amiibo figures, reseller prices might not seem exorbitant when considering their potential retail price of $20 if reprinted today.

Similar to the Amiibo situation, Donkey Kong and his companions have only appeared in a limited selection of Lego sets—specifically, five retail building sets. While Lego officially retired all four DK-themed sets from the Lego Super Mario series late last year, Amazon has replenished its stock of these items in anticipation of Donkey Kong Bananza`s release. Several of these sets are also available at discounted prices. Furthermore, Donkey Kong is featured in the Lego Mario Kart line, which launched earlier this year and remains widely available. Fans can purchase the Donkey Kong and DK Jumbo barrel kart set for $29.49 (originally $35) on Amazon.
