Huge Discount on Retired Lego Star Wars R2-D2 During Prime Day

Amazon is offering a fantastic deal on the Lego Star Wars R2-D2 display model designed for adults. This impressive 2,314-piece set, which originally retailed for $240, is now available for just $168. The substantial $72 discount represents the best price observed from a major retailer.

Given that Lego retired this particular set at the beginning of the year, this Prime Day offer might be the final opportunity to purchase it at a reduced price. This R2-D2 special is presented as an official Prime Day deal, though interestingly, a Prime membership is not required for the purchase.

Launched in 2021 as part of the celebration for Lucasfilm`s 50th Anniversary, this R2-D2 is designated as a black-box Star Wars Lego set, indicating its focus as a detailed display model aimed at an adult audience.

Upon completion, the 2,314-piece Lego R2-D2 model measures 12.5 x 7.5 x 6 inches. While not exceptionally large in terms of footprint, it`s an intricate and detailed build, featuring numerous small touches and functions that make it an excellent display piece. These interactive elements are inspired directly by the movies, including a rotating head, a retractable third leg, an adjustable periscope, and a front hatch that opens and extends. The model also includes a clever secret storage compartment designed to hold Luke Skywalker`s lightsaber.

The set comes complete with a display plaque providing details about the iconic droid, an R2-D2 minifigure, and a dedicated Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary stand for the minifigure. Collectors will note that this specific R2-D2 model is uniquely special as it`s the only Lego set ever to include the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary brick.

For comparison, Lego introduced a smaller, 1,050-piece buildable R2-D2 figure last year. That model was initially priced at $100 and is currently on sale for $80. The newer, smaller version is recommended for ages 10 and up. Although it`s also visually appealing, its construction process is considerably less complex and detailed compared to the larger adult display model.
