How to Unlock Free Fortnite Skins and Gliders via Rocket League

The highly anticipated Summer Road Trip event, a collaboration between Rocket League and Fortnite, is currently underway, offering players a fantastic opportunity to earn exclusive in-game items. This year`s grand prize is a sleek new free Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 car body, usable in both games. Coinciding with Rocket League`s 10th-anniversary celebration, Epic Games is further incentivizing players to try the popular car soccer game by offering a free Fortnite skin and glider, exclusively obtainable by playing Rocket League. Act fast, as the Rocket League portion of the event concludes on August 4.

The event operates through a series of Summer Road Trip quests available in both Fortnite and Rocket League, all contributing towards unlocking the Corvette ZR1. Each game also features its own unique set of additional rewards. In Fortnite, these include a pickaxe, a wrap, and `The Zephyr Song` jam track by The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

On the Rocket League side, the primary rewards are the “Hairpin” Fortnite skin – a stylish recolor of the existing Pitstop skin – and a massive Rocket League ball that functions as a glider. To acquire these specific items, players must complete two dedicated quests within Rocket League; there is no alternative method to earn them directly in Fortnite.

Unlocking the League Balloon Fortnite Glider

Let`s begin with the simpler task: to earn the ball glider, you need to complete the Rocket League objective: “Play a private match with custom mutators during Summer Road Trip.” Follow these steps:

  • From the main menu, select “Play.”
  • Choose “Private Match” (usually the lower-right option).
  • Select “Create Private Match.”
  • You can customize settings as desired, including playing against bots. No second player is required.
  • Crucially, ensure you set at least one “Mutator.” The specific mutator doesn`t matter.
  • If you encounter a region error, change your region setting from `Recommended` to your specific geographical region.
`Be
Remember to activate a mutator before starting your private match.

For the quickest completion, consider setting the game to sudden death (first to one goal wins) and playing against beginner-level bots that won`t use boost. Simply complete the match, regardless of outcome, to unlock your glider.

Quickly Obtaining the Free Hairpin Fortnite Skin

To unlock the “Hairpin” skin, the quest requires you to make 15 saves or epic saves during online matches. Note that private matches do not count for this objective. While this quest can be completed through normal gameplay, if you`re not a regular Rocket League player and want to optimize your time, here are two main strategies:

  • Focus on Defense in 1v1 Matches: Play 1v1 matches and prioritize defending your goal. Allow your opponent to take shots while you concentrate on blocking them. While this approach might reduce your chances of winning, it`s highly effective for accumulating saves.
  • Play Heatseeker Mode: Engage in Heatseeker, a limited-time mode often found in the casual rotation. In Heatseeker, the ball automatically steers towards the goal after every hit, providing significantly more opportunities for saves compared to standard matches.

Earning the Corvette ZR1 and Its Wheels

Beyond the Fortnite items, there are two additional Summer Road Trip quests in Rocket League that award XP and are essential for earning the Corvette ZR1. These involve getting 15 assists or clears, and 15 goals, both in public online games (similar to the skin quest). Completing all four of these Rocket League missions will unlock the ZR1`s wheels.

Once you have the wheels, you`re just one step away from the car itself. However, this final step is time-gated: starting Monday, July 28, you will be able to unlock the Corvette ZR1 by playing five online games in a party while the newly acquired ZR1 wheels are equipped.
