Despite post-launch support for Horizon Forbidden West being considered concluded for some time, Guerrilla Games has surprisingly released update 1.30.
This update isn’t packed with new features or additional content, but it is noteworthy: it introduces support for the PS5’s energy-saving mode. This functionality arrived last year and has since been adopted by most PlayStation Studios exclusives.
What Does Energy-Saving Mode Do?
For those unfamiliar, this option allows players to reduce energy consumption during gameplay, though it involves accepting certain compromises on visual quality or framerate fluidity.
It is accessible via: Settings > System > Power Saving > Power Saving for Games. From there, you can activate it for all compatible titles or only for a selection chosen by the user.
There has long been speculation that this mode, perhaps not incredibly useful for most players given the nature of the compromises, could also be a way for Sony to test reduced energy profiles in view of a possible portable PlayStation console. In any case, it remains an additional option for those who wish to optimize their power consumption.
