Hollow Knight: Unprecedented Revival as Silksong Approaches

The surprising announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong`s September 4th release date has ignited a significant resurgence of interest in the original Hollow Knight. In the days leading up to Silksong`s highly anticipated launch, the first game has repeatedly shattered its previous concurrent player records on Steam. It recently reached an impressive new peak of 56,192 players on August 29, according to data from SteamDB.

For many years, Hollow Knight`s highest concurrent player count stood at just over 20,000, achieved in May 2022. However, since the revelation of Silksong`s impending release, these numbers have climbed dramatically day after day. The game hit 21,000 players on August 22, merely a day after the announcement, and continued its ascent to today`s staggering 56,192. This remarkable achievement is particularly noteworthy for an indie title that first debuted seven years ago.

It is important to acknowledge that SteamDB statistics offer a valuable, but not exhaustive, view of the game`s popularity. While Steam is undoubtedly a dominant platform, Hollow Knight is also widely accessible across all current and previous generation consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox, with the Switch being an especially popular choice among players. Nonetheless, these robust Steam figures strongly indicate that Hollow Knight`s enduring legacy and widespread appeal continue to expand.

A recent sneak peek at Silksong has yielded very promising impressions. Following hands-on experience with the game at Gamescom, Steve Watts remarked: “Hollow Knight: Silksong appears to be precisely what was anticipated: a robust, expertly crafted, and visually appealing game that maintains the original`s artistic and design principles while introducing thoughtful, albeit not revolutionary, enhancements.”
