Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Surprisingly Low Price and Release Date Revealed

Team Cherry has officially announced that the highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, will be available for a price of just $20. This exciting news also confirms its launch date set for September 4, with release times scheduled for 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET, meaning fans won`t need to pull an all-nighter on September 3 to play it immediately.

The details regarding Silksong`s launch price and release schedule were shared by Team Cherry over the weekend. The $20 price point might come as a pleasant surprise to many, especially considering it`s only $5 more than the original Hollow Knight, which first debuted in 2017. The immense anticipation surrounding the sequel has already led to significant renewed interest in the first game, breaking Steam`s concurrent player records with over 71,000 players on September 1. The price had previously been a mystery, not having been disclosed during the initial release date announcement last month.

While the wait for Silksong has certainly been longer than many initially expected, Team Cherry has clarified that these delays were not a result of development difficulties. Instead, the small Australian team simply found joy in continuously expanding the game with additional content, making it a richer experience for players.

The impending arrival of Silksong has even influenced other indie titles, leading some to postpone their own releases to avoid being overshadowed by the highly anticipated metroidvania. However, not all developers are shifting their plans; Fling to the Finish, for instance, is set to proceed with its September 4 release on PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X|S, having already launched on PC.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be widely accessible, launching on multiple platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2. Team Cherry further confirmed via Kickstarter that existing owners of the game on the original Switch will receive a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version. Additionally, the sequel will be available as part of the Game Pass subscription service.
