Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Ambitious Post-Launch Visions Revealed

Even before its official launch, the highly anticipated game Hollow Knight: Silksong is already a topic of discussion regarding its future expansions. This comes from its developers, Team Cherry, who have maintained a notable silence about the game for the past six years, a title that itself originated as downloadable content eight years ago.

In a recent Bloomberg interview focusing on Silksong`s prolonged development, Team Cherry`s co-directors, Ari Gibson and William Pellen, expressed their enthusiasm not just for the upcoming September 4 release, but equally for the content planned for after the game`s debut.

Gibson elaborated, stating that the most exciting prospect now is the ability to expand upon the game. He mentioned that while these post-launch plans are quite ambitious, the team hopes to bring them to fruition.

While Gibson and Pellen remained vague about the specifics of these ambitious plans, their comments suggest that Silksong`s journey won`t conclude with its initial release. It seems there`s still much more to look forward to.

This approach mirrors Team Cherry`s dedication to its predecessor, Hollow Knight, which launched in early 2017. That game received four substantial free DLC packs, each introducing new characters, quests, boss battles, music, and various improvements, indicating a long-term commitment to their titles.

The announcement of Silksong DLC sparks several questions: Will it receive a similar volume of post-launch content as Hollow Knight? Given its lengthy development, will Team Cherry continue to focus on Silksong rather than shifting to a new project? And crucially, will these expansions be offered free of charge?

Ironically, Silksong itself originated as the fifth and final planned DLC for Hollow Knight. However, by 2019, its scope had expanded so much that it evolved into a standalone sequel, a well-known part of its development history.

Now, after years of anticipation, Silksong is finally nearing its release, confirmed for September 4 and currently playable at Gamescom. Players can only hope that future DLC doesn`t follow the main game`s extended development timeline.
