Gamescom`s Opening Night Live (ONL) presentation offered a host of new announcements alongside fresh looks at previously revealed titles, notably the highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Players will control Hornet, the princess-protector, embarking on a perilous journey through an unknown realm. At Gamescom, we had the opportunity to experience Silksong firsthand, and fresh gameplay footage was showcased.
Following numerous delays, fan anticipation for the game`s release had grown considerably. We did get to play it, but with a slight catch.
Although the audio quality wasn`t optimal, making it difficult to fully appreciate Christopher Larkin`s evocative score, the demonstration clearly illustrated Hornet`s movement and combat mechanics. As in the original Hollow Knight, Hornet wields her signature needle, capable of both standard strikes and charged attacks for increased damage. The boss encounter against `Mother` seemed straightforward, and it was a pleasure to once again delve into the world of Hollow Knight.
However, this particular gameplay segment might seem familiar, as it was previously showcased and playable at E3 in 2019. Perhaps Team Cherry prefers to keep further details under wraps, or this specific level was deemed the most polished and accessible starting point for both new players and veterans of the original Hollow Knight.
A dedicated presentation for the game is scheduled for Thursday, potentially unveiling an official release date and more story details. Team Cherry has indicated that the game is on track for a 2025 launch.
