Hollow Knight: Silksong Again Missing From Nintendo Direct

Fans were once again disappointed as Hollow Knight: Silksong was conspicuously missing from Thursday`s Nintendo Direct. Despite no official confirmation prior, many had held out hope for a much-anticipated update, especially given the scarce information released since the game`s initial announcement in 2019.

Following its previous postponement, Team Cherry appears committed to maintaining silence until Silksong is completely polished for launch, or until they have significant news to disclose. This extreme level of discretion, though comprehensible, creates a void that inevitably leads to rampant speculation and rumors, even with Microsoft`s assertion that the game will still launch this year.

What we do know is that, in contrast to its predecessor, Hollow Knight, Silksong casts players as Hornet, who embarks on a journey starting deep within the subterranean realm of Pharloom, ascending towards its towering Citadel. Pharloom seems more technologically advanced compared to Hallownest, though Hornet`s presence there and any potential connection to Hallownest are yet unknown. Her primary goal, however, is unequivocally to escape.

Silksong was initially slated for release in the first half of 2023. However, in May 2023, Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry`s marketing and publishing representative, confirmed that development was “still continuing,” leading to the game`s postponement. Recent glimpses of gameplay footage emerged just last month, featured within a promotional reel for the Xbox Ally.

On a related note, European gamers will have the chance to experience a demo of Hollow Knight: Silksong at next month`s Gamescom, as Xbox has confirmed its presence in their showcase lineup. This raises the critical question: will the prolonged anticipation ultimately be justified?
