Hello Games, the acclaimed development studio behind the popular space exploration title No Man`s Sky, continues to roll out updates for their game even nearly a decade after its initial release. The recent “Voyagers” update for No Man`s Sky has served as a direct inspiration and technological foundation for the company`s highly anticipated next game, Light No Fire. Sean Murray, co-founder of Hello Games, indicated that the innovative advancements made in No Man`s Sky are paving the way for Light No Fire to feature an immense, explorable planet complete with vast oceans.
“A significant portion of the technology we’re introducing with [No Man`s Sky: Voyagers] is also being utilized in our next project, Light No Fire,” Murray revealed to PC Gamer. “This game is conceived as a truly open world, a shared Earth-sized planet, replete with authentic oceans that will demand the use of large vessels and multi-character crews for navigation. We are genuinely excited to share this evolving technology with players in advance.”
Hello Games first offered a glimpse of Light No Fire in late 2023, a title Murray himself characterized as “the first genuine open world.” A key distinguishing feature from its predecessor, No Man`s Sky, is that Light No Fire is set entirely on a single, colossal world where all participating players will coexist. The “Voyagers” update for No Man`s Sky was particularly noteworthy as it introduced the capability to construct ships substantial enough to accommodate multiple player-controlled characters as part of a crew, an innovation that strongly hints at the scale and cooperative elements expected in Light No Fire.
Murray also acknowledged the “enormous technical hurdles” that the programming teams have diligently worked to overcome to transform these ambitious concepts into reality. He further explained that “almost every underlying component of the game required extensive re-engineering to properly support these complex relative spatial dimensions and intricate systems.”
