The recent “Into the Unjust” update for Helldivers 2 introduced a terrifying new adversary: the gargantuan Hive Lords. These colossal Terminids, found deep within the Hive Worlds, are proving to be an immense challenge for players, rivaling even the formidable Hive Worm gods from Destiny 2 in their sheer resilience.
Touted as some of the largest bosses ever encountered in Helldivers 2, Hive Lords possess an astounding amount of health, protected by thick, rocky armor. These monstrous bullet-sponges can withstand nearly any assault. While not entirely invincible, a squad of Helldivers will require an arsenal of anti-tank stratagems and numerous hellbombs to bring down these skyscraper-sized titans.
Engaging a Hive Lord is not only difficult offensively but also defensively. These colossal worms can disappear underground, resurfacing abruptly to unleash surprise attacks, raining down debris, or crushing Helldivers with their immense mass. Adding to the peril, they can drench the area in corrosive bile, compelling teams to remain constantly mobile throughout the encounter.
Despite having a few vulnerable spots, such as under their armor or their gaping maw which could potentially accommodate an anti-tank rocket, the most pragmatic strategy against a Hive Lord, surprisingly, is often to disengage. Many Helldivers find it more effective to strategically retreat and concentrate on core mission objectives rather than commit to a prolonged and costly battle.
Defeating a Hive Lord demands an extraordinary commitment of resources; one team reported using ten Hellbombs, eight 500KG bombs, and various other stratagems. Currently, there appears to be no in-game reward for eliminating these titans beyond the profound satisfaction of safeguarding democracy from such a formidable creature.
