Halloween: The Game Announced by Friday The 13th Developers

The highly anticipated `night he came home` is slated for 2026, as game developers Illfonic and Gun Media have officially unveiled Halloween: The Game. This forthcoming title will offer both single-player and multiplayer experiences, directly inspired by John Carpenter`s iconic 1978 slasher film. The two studios previously collaborated on Friday The 13th: The Game, a well-received multiplayer adaptation of another famous masked killer franchise.

Halloween: The Game made its debut announcement during the recent Future Games Show, coinciding with Gamescom 2025. It is set to launch in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The game is expected to faithfully adapt key elements and the atmosphere from the original Halloween movie.

In Halloween: The Game, players will have the option to either assume the role of the residents of Haddonfield, Illinois, attempting to survive by staying hidden and seeking assistance, or to embody The Shape, Michael Myers himself, stalking his prey.

The game will feature a dedicated single-player story mode, an offline bots mode for practice or solo play, and competitive online asymmetrical PvP. It will also include multiple maps and meticulously recreated authentic locations directly inspired by the classic film. Gun Media CEO, Wes Keltner, had previously expressed his strong desire to reunite with Illfonic, stating a 100% certainty to collaborate again given the right project.

While an Halloween project built in Unreal Engine 5 was previously teased by Boss Team Games (known for titles like Evil Dead and RetroRealms), it now appears that this is the same project, with Boss Team Games no longer involved. This confirms the successful reunion of the development duo behind Friday The 13th.

Since their work on Friday The 13th, Illfonic has continued to develop licensed multiplayer games, including Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Predator: Hunting Grounds, and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed. Gun Media, for its part, released The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
