This week, video game venture capital firm Konvoy released its sales projections for Grand Theft Auto 6. The most striking aspect of their forecast was the assertion that GTA 6 would generate $7.6 billion in revenue within just 60 days. However, a video game industry analyst has since cast doubt on the realism of such ambitious figures.
Daniel Ahmad, Director of Research and Insights at Niko Partners, assessed Konvoy`s predictions, labeling them `aggressive` for the initial 60 days. According to Ahmad, reaching these projected figures would require nearly 65% of all Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 owners to purchase the game within that timeframe.
Ahmad also cited Grand Theft Auto 5 as a comparison, noting that it sold 32.5 million copies in its first three months in 2013, when the combined install base of Xbox 360 and PS3 was approximately 166 million users. This represented less than 20% of the total owners of those consoles.
While Konvoy`s revenue projection might be overly optimistic, their suggestion regarding the introduction of a new user-generated content (UGC) platform for mod creation in GTA 6 appears more plausible. Earlier reports indicated that Rockstar Games had discussions with Fortnite and Roblox developers about enabling unique custom experiences within GTA 6, which could potentially allow creators to monetize their creations, with Rockstar sharing a significant portion of the revenue.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
