Glen Powell Joins Super Mario Galaxy Movie as Fox McCloud, Fuelling Smash Bros. Speculation

The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie has officially confirmed the inclusion of Fox McCloud, the iconic hero from the Star Fox series. Nintendo recently unveiled a new promotional poster showcasing the character’s appearance.

With the premiere of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie less than a week away, Nintendo has surprised fans by revealing an unexpected character, further fueling ongoing speculation about a potential Super Smash Bros.-centric film.

Given that the sequel to the Mario Bros. film is set to partially take place in space, Fox McCloud, the protagonist of the Star Fox game franchise, will make his cinematic debut. A newly released Nintendo poster depicts Fox in the distinctive animation style of Illumination, complete with his signature Arwing spacecraft.

Similar to the previously confirmed inclusion of Pikmin characters, Fox McCloud is not traditionally part of the Mushroom Kingdom’s established lore. His appearance, therefore, reinforces ongoing fan theories across online forums suggesting that Nintendo is planning a Super Smash Bros. movie. Both Fox McCloud from Star Fox and Olimar/Alph from Pikmin are prominent Super Smash Bros. fighters who typically do not interact with Mushroom Kingdom inhabitants outside of the Smash universe. Additionally, R.O.B., another Smash character without ties to the Mushroom Kingdom, has also been confirmed for the film.

The Nintendo poster reveal has sparked numerous discussions on Reddit, with many fans now convinced that future films will feature an even broader array of Nintendo characters engaged in combat. One particular theory suggests that Master Hand, the primary antagonist from Super Smash Bros., might make a post-credits appearance. Beyond these theories, the current Super Mario Galaxy Movie cast includes new additions like Brie Larson as Rosalina, Donald Glover as Yoshi, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., joining returning stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled for release in theaters on April 1st.
