Forget waiting for the Great Pumpkin; this year, the virtual world of Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival is where the spooky gourd action is. This unique massively multiplayer online game (MMO), centered around pumpkin carving, has returned after its scheduled break.
Developed by Whippoorwill Ltd, a team consisting of Adam R. and Dawn B., Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival plunges players into an actual ghost town environment. Here, they can immerse themselves in a Halloween festival, participate in a pumpkin-carving competition, and earn prize ribbons awarded by fellow players for their most impressive creations. The game also features opportunities for players to explore the town and personalize their spectral avatars.
Significantly expanding its capacity, Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival now accommodates 800 concurrent players, a considerable leap from its previous limit of 200. New attractions have been introduced, such as the Ghost Town Cinema, offering classic silent films. Other activities available for exploration within the town include visiting a haunted location and enjoying a hayride.
The game is available for download on its official website, compatible with PC, Mac, and Linux. Players can choose a “name your own price” model, with a payment of $2 or more unlocking special ghost hats for their avatars. Creator Adam R. reported a new record this year, with players having carved over 24,000 pumpkins since the game relaunched earlier this month.
The developers have confirmed that Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival will cease operations roughly one to two weeks post-Halloween, likely anticipating its return in 2026. Beyond this, many other video games are also featuring special Halloween-themed content and events for the spooky season.
