The development team behind Ghost of Yotei expressed significant relief and satisfaction following Rockstar`s decision to postpone the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 to 2026. This delay is seen as a crucial opportunity, providing Sucker Punch`s game with valuable breathing room in the highly competitive fall release window.
Nate Fox, co-creative director for Ghost of Yotei, was humorously questioned by MinnMaxx about whether the studio celebrated with champagne upon hearing of GTA 6`s delay in May 2025. Fox responded light-heartedly, stating, “We`re all still hungover. Multi-month hangover. That was a great day.”
Sony had previously announced Ghost of Yotei`s release date for October 2, 2025. Just one month later, in May 2025, Rockstar confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would not launch until May 2026.
Reports had indicated that numerous developers with titles slated for 2025 were preparing to adjust their release schedules in anticipation of GTA 6`s colossal impact. The game is widely expected to be an unparalleled success, with one industry veteran even labeling it the first `AAAAA` game, possessing the potential to overshadow all other releases.
A Second Playable Character and Story DLC?
During a segment, Fox was directly questioned about whether Ghost of Yotei would feature only one playable character, Atsu. His response was a telling silence: he took a sip from his drink, gazing slyly into the camera, a clear indication that he was teasing viewers about potential unannounced features.
When pressed on the possibility of single-player downloadable content for Ghost of Yotei, Fox once again remained silent, offering another knowing look at the camera. While not a definitive confirmation, his demeanor suggested more might be in store for players.
It has already been confirmed that Ghost of Yotei will include a dedicated multiplayer `Legends` mode. This mode will adapt the game`s core mechanics and combat for cooperative supernatural missions. `Legends` is set to be a free DLC for all base game owners and is slated for release in 2026.
Atsu`s Onsen Moment Confirmed
A memorable detail from Ghost of Tsushima was Jin Sakai`s onsen scenes, which notably featured a glimpse of his posterior, a detail enjoyed by many players. Fox confirmed a similar moment for Ghost of Yotei, stating, “Atsu will also be getting an onsen, and you will see her butt.”
Infamous Remasters `Would Be Great`
Fox also briefly commented on Sucker Punch`s Infamous series, expressing enthusiasm for the idea of another studio developing remasters of the games. The original Infamous series began in 2009, followed by Infamous 2 in 2011, and Infamous: Second Son in 2014. Fox himself directed all three titles.
