Ghost Of Yotei Brings Back Kurosawa Mode, Adds New Modes From Samurai Film Directors

Sucker Punch confirmed during this week`s State of Play presentation that Kurosawa Mode, the black-and-white visual filter inspired by director Akira Kurosawa and first featured in Ghost of Tsushima, will return in the upcoming sequel, Ghost of Yotei. The developers also revealed that Kurosawa Mode is just one of several cinematic inspirations incorporated into the new game.

The team disclosed a partnership with Takashi Miike, director of “13 Assassins,” for a new mode. This mode is designed to offer a more visceral and intense battle experience, including heightened mud and blood splatter effects for a closer look at combat sequences.

A third collaboration involves Shinichirō Watanabe, known for directing “Samurai Champloo.” The development team stated that Watanabe directly supervised the implementation of his mode in the game, which features original lo-fi music tracks added to Ghost of Yotei`s soundtrack.

Among other notable revelations from the State of Play was information about the protagonist, Atsu. Unlike characters traditionally limited to samurai or shinobi fighting styles, Atsu will have access to a wider array of weapons and can use them as needed. Atsu will also be able to form alliances with various characters, including a wolf companion.

Sony also announced that limited-edition PS5 bundles themed around Ghost of Yotei will be available starting October 2nd, coinciding with the game`s official launch.
