The GameSir G8 Plus Galileo Bluetooth controller, designed for handheld gaming on iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch consoles, is currently available at a significantly reduced price during sale events at Walmart and Amazon. Originally priced at $80, the G8 Plus is now on sale for just $50 at Walmart and $64 at Amazon. A key highlight of this controller is its compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2, offering a compelling alternative to the native controllers (presumably Joy-Con 2) for portable gameplay.
The G8 Plus integrates well with the Switch 2 and includes several features that make it an attractive option for Switch 2 users. These include enhanced ergonomics, programmable back buttons, Hall Effect joysticks (known for resisting drift), interchangeable parts, and a traditional D-pad. Marvel enthusiasts can also enjoy gaming on their Switch 2 with officially licensed versions featuring themes like Hulk or Thanos.
Similar to popular mobile controllers such as the Backbone Pro and Razer Kishi V3 Pro, the G8 Plus utilizes an adjustable cradle to secure your phone, tablet, or Nintendo console. With support for devices up to 8.5 inches in size, its versatility is impressive. Besides the Switch 2, it works flawlessly with the Switch OLED and the original Switch models. It can also accommodate your iPhone or Android phone, an iPad Mini, and a variety of small Android tablets.

The standard black version of the G8 Plus shares a similar color tone with the Switch 2 console. The $50 deal at Walmart is directly from the manufacturer. If Walmart stock runs out, the G8 Plus is available on Amazon for $64. Note that the controller`s MSRP on GameSir`s site temporarily increased from $80 to $100 in June, but the original $80 price is back for the standard edition.
Marvel-themed versions include the Incredible Hulk Edition, discounted to $70 (from $100), and the Thanos Edition, priced at $80 (from $100). Both licensed editions are available at Walmart.

The GameSir G8 Plus is equipped with Hall Effect analog sticks, providing smooth and precise control. These sensors are known for their resistance to stick drift, suggesting good durability over time. In contrast, the ALPS sticks used in the current Joy-Con controllers have seen some users report issues with drift.
As mentioned, the G8 Plus offers several other features beneficial for Switch 2. It includes two remappable back buttons (one on each side) and a classic D-pad. The back buttons can be programmed directly on the controller or via the GameSir mobile app.
It also features a 6-axis gyroscope for motion control input and rumble motors on each side for tactile feedback. With a design closer to a traditional gamepad, the G8 Plus provides better ergonomics compared to the standard Joy-Con 2 setup.
The ABXY face buttons follow the Xbox controller layout, meaning the physical positions of A/B and X/Y are swapped compared to Nintendo`s standard. By default, Nintendo consoles will register the buttons according to their physical labels, which might be confusing for some players. The G8 Plus offers two solutions: users can physically swap the button caps by removing the faceplate, or they can activate “Switch mode” by holding the program button (M) and A, which causes the Switch console to interpret A/B and X/Y functions as opposites.

Included in the box are three alternative analog stick caps: a domed style, a taller stick suitable for FPS games, and a shorter stick with a smaller cap. For FPS players, a `hair trigger` mode can also be enabled for the left and right triggers, allowing actuation with shorter pulls.
Potential downsides when using the G8 Plus with the Switch 2 should be noted. While the cradle securely holds the Switch 2 using a rubberized bridge and side pads to help prevent scratches, it does not physically connect to the console like the Joy-Con controllers. When carrying the setup, it`s advisable to hold the Switch 2 console itself rather than solely the controller`s grips. Due to the size of the Switch 2, its edges may extend slightly beyond the controller grips, leaving them exposed. A protective shell on the Switch 2 console might be beneficial when using this controller. Additionally, you will need to remove the Switch 2 from the G8 Plus cradle to place it into its docking station.
A significant advantage of the GameSir G8 Plus is its platform versatility. It`s highly probable that dedicated handheld controllers for the Switch 2 will emerge, but most will likely only work with the Switch 2. The G8 Plus, however, offers broad compatibility. Even if you later opt for a different Switch 2 controller or grip, the G8 Plus remains a valuable accessory for gaming on other devices like iPhones, Androids, or even as a wireless controller for playing on a TV with your Switch or Switch 2.
