Game Pass Players’ Unique Habits in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

MachineGames, the development studio behind the anticipated title Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has shared intriguing observations regarding the play habits of individuals accessing the game through Xbox Game Pass. Jens Andersson, the design director, emphasized that a primary objective for the studio was to ensure The Great Circle was the most approachable game MachineGames had created to date. Its inclusion in Game Pass naturally opened the door for many subscribers to try it out.

However, data collected by MachineGames revealed a distinct pattern among Game Pass subscribers: many would “jump in for five minutes and they drop out.” Andersson noted that while such usage data provides valuable insights for development, the studio must be careful not to make excessive compromises based solely on these brief engagements.

He further explained the studio`s philosophy: “It needs to be a great game for the player who plays all the way through.” This commitment is paramount for MachineGames, given its identity as a story-centric studio. Andersson described striking this balance between broad accessibility and delivering a deep, complete experience for dedicated players as a “hard balance.” He acknowledged the ongoing challenge of considering the immediate short-term engagement versus the overall long-term vision of the game.

Release Information and Future Plans

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is scheduled for release in December 2024 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. A PlayStation 5 version will follow in April 2025, with a Nintendo Switch 2 iteration planned for 2026, though a specific launch date for the latter has not yet been disclosed.

Looking ahead, players can anticipate a new expansion for the game, titled “Order of Giants,” which is set to launch on September 4. While MachineGames currently has no other upcoming projects officially announced, Lucasfilm has previously indicated a strong interest in continuing to explore additional Indiana Jones narratives within the realm of video games.
