Developer 11 bit studios has officially announced that Frostpunk 2 will launch on consoles on September 18. This highly anticipated release will be available on Xbox Game Pass for consoles from day one, complementing its existing presence on PC Game Pass. In addition, two distinct physical editions will be offered to fans.
The physical editions include the Icebreaker Edition and the more comprehensive Whiteout Edition. The Icebreaker Edition bundles the base game with a digital novella, a digital artbook, and a unique pop-up diorama depicting New London. For those seeking more, the Whiteout Edition encompasses all contents of the Icebreaker version, plus access to three of Frostpunk 2`s upcoming DLC releases, along with exclusive physical collectibles such as a keychain, New London postcards, stickers, and a faction patch.
Igor Skibinski, Production Coordinator at 11 bit studios, emphasized the team`s dedication to optimizing the post-apocalyptic strategy game for consoles, aiming for a seamless control experience. He articulated their vision, stating, “Our ambition is to once again prove that even complex strategy games can feel intuitive and satisfying on consoles.” Furthermore, a future PC update will integrate a controller-friendly UI, mirroring the console`s design, for PC players using gamepads.
Upon its console debut, Frostpunk 2 will join its critically acclaimed predecessor, the original Frostpunk, which is also available on Game Pass. The Frostpunk franchise is renowned for its survival-focused city-building gameplay, where players must navigate an endless winter by making difficult ethical and strategic decisions. This involves not only managing essential resources like food and heat but also contending with the complexities of social upheaval within their frozen settlements.

Earlier this year, 11 bit studios also unveiled plans for Frostpunk 1886, a remake of the original Frostpunk. This ambitious project, built using Unreal Engine 5, promises more than just visual enhancements. It will introduce new content, mechanics, and laws, significantly expanding the gameplay experience. Crucially, it will also feature official mod support, a capability previously restricted by the original game`s engine limitations.
The developers have affirmed their long-term commitment to both titles, clarifying that development on Frostpunk 2 and Frostpunk 1886 will “evolve side by side.” According to the Frostpunk 2 roadmap, players can anticipate multiple free major content updates and a series of paid DLCs, with the first wave expected in 2025 and further content extending into 2026.
