Fortnite players have been eagerly anticipating the ability to unlock the game`s first Superman skin available in four years, and Friday was designated as the release day. However, it appears Epic Games has run into a problem, as the majority of the new Superman cosmetic items, including both versions of the outfit, are currently locked for all players, irrespective of whether they own the battle pass.
While players are able to successfully unlock the free items associated with the set—a loading screen, a cape, and a pickaxe—all other items that require the battle pass remain inaccessible. Players who have leveled up sufficiently to earn some of these items report receiving the standard `you just unlocked these items` pop-up notification upon returning to the lobby, but the skin, glider, and other battle pass-required items do not subsequently appear in their in-game locker.
This issue has triggered a surge of complaints, particularly inundating the front page of the FortniteBR subreddit with posts on the topic. Despite the widespread nature of this problem (which I have also personally experienced), Epic initially had not publicly acknowledged the issue through their official @FortniteStatus channel. There was, however, a page mentioning it in Epic`s self-service support portal. The delay in public response might have been related to Epic`s company-wide summer break, which concluded on Friday. [Update: Epic has since publicly acknowledged the problem, although they have not yet provided a timeframe for a fix.]
This situation is understandably frustrating for fans, especially those who have waited years for a new opportunity to acquire a Superman skin. The previous Superman skin is permanently tied to the Chapter 2 Season 7 battle pass, released in 2021, making this the first opportunity for newer players to get their hands on a Superman outfit.
In addition to the new Superman content, Epic released cosmetic items for a couple of other characters from the recent film in the item shop on Thursday. These included outfits for the antagonist Engineer and the popular character Mister Terrific, though the highly requested Lex Luthor was not among them. Both Engineer and Mister Terrific will be available in the shop until July 24.
The exciting collaboration with DC isn`t limited to cosmetics alone. As of Friday, Epic introduced a new Superman mythic item in Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. This item allows one player per match to temporarily transform into a fully powered Superman, gaining the ability to fly and utilize heat vision to damage opponents. Furthermore, Superman`s iconic Fortress of Solitude is slated to be added to the island map following next week`s major patch.
