Fortnite OG: Back to Basics Without SBMM or Bots

Fortnite OG has maintained a strong player base for several months, yet it has been somewhat overshadowed by other modes like Reload and Blitz. Consequently, Epic Games is exploring new ways to revitalize the experience.

Following a recent live rocket event, which introduced enigmatic red rifts potentially altering the island`s future, a significant update has arrived for OG mode. This patch introduces a classic matchmaking option that completely removes skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) and bots.

Players can access this new `Duo (Expert)` mode by selecting the standard OG mode (excluding Zero Build) and navigating to the group-size dropdown menu. For those who prefer the original setup, the regular Duo mode remains available.

The decision to remove SBMM might be welcomed by some, particularly professional players who often advocate for its absence. However, this change means newcomers to Fortnite could find themselves competing against highly skilled veterans, which can make the game less enjoyable for average players who prefer balanced matches.

Ultimately, the reintroduction of matchmaking without SBMM or bots serves as a nostalgic nod to Fortnite`s early days. Chapter 1 of the game did not feature these elements, so this update brings the OG experience closer to its original mechanical form.
