Fortnite`s superhero season is now a month underway, but special items and abilities so far have been mostly original to the game, with only Robin`s grappler and Krypto`s dog treats offering specific character ties. This is set to change significantly starting Friday, July 11. The new Superman arrives on the Battle Royale island, bringing with him the `Superman`s Call` ability. This new mechanic will allow one player per match to temporarily take on the mantle of Superman, gaining access to his powerful abilities. In addition to this gameplay feature, the update includes new character skins inspired by the movie and introduces a major new point of interest (POI) on the island: the Fortress of Solitude.
This ability represents the latest iteration of a mechanic Fortnite has frequently implemented this year, where a single player or group in each match can become a dominant force or `boss`. The trend began in January with Godzilla, continued in May with the Star Destroyer from Star Wars, and now features the iconic Man of Steel. The Superman version of this ability will grant a player flight and the ability to use heat vision, capable of melting opponents and structures.
Starting Friday, players can also unlock the new Superman skin through the battle pass. Battle pass owners can unlock the standard David Corenswet version by gaining 12 levels and a unique `pen & ink` cel-shaded version after gaining 24 levels. Complementary cosmetics are available alongside the skin, including a matching glider, pickaxe, and capes for both styles. The in-game shop will also feature skins based on characters from the movie, specifically The Engineer and Mister Terrific. However, the highly anticipated Lex Luthor skin was not mentioned.
For comic book enthusiasts disappointed by Lex Luthor`s absence, the new Fortress of Solitude location in Battle Royale and Zero Build modes offers an alternative point of interest. This significant new area is expected to remain on the map until the end of the next season. An NPC representing Superman will be found there, offering services such as healing that players can purchase using gold bars.
